Daily Prompt: What were your parents doing at your age?
When my parents were 40, they had three children, aged 10, 8 and 6. My mom was a stay-at-home mom, and my dad worked in Hartford, CT, as the VP of Tax for a company whose name I now forget.
Daily Prompt: What do you complain about the most?
I currently live in Austria, where the summertime temperatures can sometimes exceed 90 degrees Farenheit. We live in an “altbau,” i.e., a building built before WWII. There is no air conditioning. The building is made of concrete. What this means is that when it gets hot, it stays hot, and my apartment is a constant 85 degrees Fahrenheit all summer long with no reprieve.
What do I complain about the most? During the summer time it is hands down a lack of AC. How freaking hot it is for months on end. How I can’t sleep properly, etc.
I wish I could say there was an end in sight, but it only seems to be getting worse. I’m just glad its winter now. A few more months before my yearly hell begins.
Daily Prompt: Where can you reduce clutter in your life?
I think the better question is, where can I NOT reduce clutter in my life? Everything is cluttered. I like to think of it as an “organized mess.” I know where everything is — I just have too much stuff and too little space. One of my many goals this year is not to buy anything unless I absolutely “need” it. I also need to go through what I have and ask, “Do I need this?” For example, I still have my prom dress (maybe even 2 prom dresses) from 20 years ago. Do I need this?? The Nook I haven’t touched in a decade? Do I need this? Etc.
Item by item, the clutter will hopefully dissipate. Now I just need to convince my family to do the same with their possessions!
For those of you who are also thinking about decluttering and/or minimizing the consumer urge to buy everything in sight, I would recommend the book: The Year of Less by Cait Flanders.

Daily Prompt: List your top 5 grocery store items
- Bread — this is my daughter’s favorite snack after kindergarten
- cheese — I absolutely love cheese.
- vegetables — salad makes up a large number of my dinners
- fruit — seasonal fruits are just the best
- Avocados — no salad is complete without them!
Daily Writing Prompt: Are you more of a night or morning person?
Night person! Even if I have to wake up early (for work etc.), I don’t function properly until I’ve had coffee, and I don’t really become a real person until at least after 9am.
